Finally ended my drive in northwest corner of Spain !

Semana Santa in Seville is next!

I finally reached the beautiful city of Santiago de Compostela, which is the final destination for the pilgrims who walk the Camino. There are 7 routes to choose from , the one most people walk is 500 miles if you complete the whole journey! That is no walk in the park!

I stayed at a hotel on the main plaza that was right next the the Cathedral. This is the area where all the pilgrims end their journey and it was so fun to watch them as the came in throughout the day – hugging , celebrating, lying on the ground looking up at the Cathedral in unbelief! Some say the journey is a spiritual one but any way you look at it, the journey has a profound effect on the pilgrims .

I spoke to one young guy from Austria and asked how it was. He started in the French Pyrenees and he said he wasn’t sure he would make it because the first few days were much harder than he thought, but as the days went on , there was less elevation and better weather! I asked if he wanted me to take a picture for him with all his stuff in front of the Cathedral. He said , “ yes ! My mom is going to love these ! She has been so worried about me!”

In the cathedral every day at 7 pm they have a mass and name the pilgrims who are in attendance that day . It is a very inclusive celebration!
