General Pereira hero of the Portuguese people with his army of 10,000 they defeated the Spanish army of 40,000. He devised strategies such as the square , where the army forms a square and opens one side to let the enemy advance in and then they kill all of them while inside. This Monastery Batalha was built in his honor he promised the Virgin Mary to build it if they won the battle.
